This week’s Talk Radio Topic is Coping with Insomnia—what causes sleeping problems, and what you can do to prevent or resolve them on KSTAR 1400 AM and Planetary Streams Talk Radio
Salem, UT – November 20, 2010 – Planetary Streams Talk Radio Network today announced that Diana Hoffman, Clinical Hypnotherapist, Trauma Recovery Specialist, and host of “Healing Talk With Diana Hoffman” radio show, will be discussing “Coping with Insomnia.” An estimated 9 % of Americans suffer from insomnia. Some of it is physiological, casued by problems such as sleep apnea. Some of it is tied to daily stresses or lifestyle patterns. And some of it is related to childhood trauma. Find out what you can do to prevent insomnia or to resolve it into healthy sleep. Healing Talk with Diana Hoffman, broadcasts locally every Wednesday on Utah’s KSTAR 1400 AM and globally throughout the following week, starting on Saturday at 11 a.m. Mountain Time on Planetary Streams Talk Radio Network, and Web Campus World Wide Talk Radio.
According to Diana Hoffman, LPC, Trauma Recovery Specialist, Clinical Hypnotherapist, Mind/Body Healing Coach, and owner of Salem Counseling Center, Insomnia is a chronic challenge for many people. In addition, a recent study showed that 30% of individuals with normal sleep can develop insomnia in a given year. Continuing insomnia can have very serious health implications. Insomnia sufferers show a substantial increase in symptoms of depression and anxiety. Sleep apnea, often a cause of insomnia, also causes a serious increase in the risk of heart disease.
Childhood trauma is often an underlying cause of insomnia. A recent study of adverse childhood experiences (ACES) showed that 46% of insomnia sufferers had traumatic childhood experiences. Insomnia is also a symptom of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Traumatic experiences often increase hyper vigilance and produce brain-wave patterns that interfere with normal sleep. Sleep problems can also be caused by a variety of behavior patterns that interfere with normal circadian rhythms, reduce the brains production of the sleep-inducing chemical melatonin, raise stress hormones such as histamines at bedtime, and otherwise sabotage the body’s sleep patterns.
Listeners are invited to learn what can be done to improve the quality, regularity and depth of sleep. Discover simple schedule adjustments that can have a big impact, and learn how to avoid classic mistakes that tend to make insomnia worse.
